Indian Club Training: Explanation and History

Sorry I couldn’t get this video to embed, but here’s the link. It’s actually a serries of exercises. It will give you a taste of some club swinging exercises. If you like these, I would recomend Scott Sonnon’s DVD for heavy club instruction and Ed Thomas’ DVD for lighter club instruction. I like both and think they both have their place and purpose.

  1. I have to admit, those videos in the link above were horrible form. He also calls it “Circular Strength Training” but that’s the name of Scott Sonnon’s system. He’s not listed over at Coach Sonnon’s site as an instructor of CST. With his form so awful, something smells fishy.

  2. I get the idea that he is associated with Ed Thomas some how but I don’t know for sure. I think he says so in one of those clips. He has some websites too. Maybe it says in more detail on his sites.

I liked this guys clips because they give a glimps of what club swinging looks like. I would definately recomend Sonnon’s material or a live teacher to actually learn the technique for the heavy clubs. For me, I need to see the moves, so I suggest the DVDs.

  3. He may be swinging clubs, but he’s not club swinging. The poor form he’s using will DESTROY your elbows and shoulders. He’s straining even to snatch TEN POUND clubs???? I’ll stick with the RMAX crew. They’re throwing around clubs 5 times that weight without breaking a sweat… AND with perfect form.

  4. Yup,

The RMAX instruction is the way to go for heavy clubs. This guys clips are best just to get an idea of what club swinging looks like and instruction on the small clubs. He mixes the grip even, he tells you to hold the heavier clubs the same as you hold the small clubs.

Yup, glad you noticed and pointed that out again, in case someone hasn’t seen both versions.

If you are training internal martial arts, the small clubs give you an added little treat, so dont leave off the small ones all you internal folks!
